Michael Kalisa obtained his Bachelor's of Law degree (LLB) from Kigali Independent University in 2002 as well as a Master’s degree in Government Law and Policy from Pacific McGeorge School of Law in the United States. He is a member of the Kigali Bar Association (KBA), the East African Law Society (EALS) as well as the International Trademark Association (INTA).
Prior to joining Rukangira Law Chambers in 2013, Michael specialized in Criminal Law, working with the Prosecution team at the UN-ICTR in Arusha, Tanzania. He has also served as a Special Assistant to the Prosecutor General of Rwanda.
Michael has received numerous legal trainings on cross-cutting issues such as transitional justice, arbitration, mediation and gender-based violence. He is an active member of the Institute for Justice Sector Development, and he additionally lectures Public International Law courses at the Kigali Independent University.
Michael has an excellent command of both English and French as well as a good understanding of Kinyarwanda, Kiswahili and Lingala.
